We do not recommend that you steam genuine leather or suede. Fabrics that generally shouldn't be exposed to water should not be steamed; it may cause stains on the fabric. Leather might also shrink a little.
So, how about fake leather and fake suede? Faux leather is made out of plastic fibers, and therefore these garments are mainly made out of plastic. The composition of these kinds of fabrics may look different and vary depending on the manufacturer. Fake suede is closer to textile in composition, although this too may vary a lot depending on the manufacturer. Therefore, we always recommend that you try steaming a small piece of the fabric to start with to see how it reacts. Also, please keep a distance between the fabric and the steamer.
We are cautious with recommending steaming plastic – which is what fake leather usually consists of. Please keep this in mind, and once again, be gentle and careful if you steam these kinds of garments.
